Celebrate Independence Day with Loudoun County Parks, Rec

Loudoun County Parks, Recreation and Community Services (PRCS) will host five free events from June 28 to July 4, 2024, in honor of Independence Day.

  • Sterling Community Center hosts its annual Star-Spangled Sterling on Friday, June 28, 2024, from 5:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at the Sterling Middle School. Enjoy entertainment, a kid’s zone (featuring moon bounces, volleyball, giant Jenga, outdoor family games, and giveaways), a live DJ, and food trucks (food for purchase). Fireworks begin at approximately 9:30 p.m. Sterling Middle School is located at 201 W. Holly Avenue in Sterling. Rain date for the fireworks-only show is Monday, July 1, 2024, at 9:30 p.m.
  • Hal and Berni Hanson Regional Park will host What a Blast! Saturday, June 29, 2024, in partnership with the Brambleton Community Association. What a Blast!  will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Enjoy music, games, a kid’s zone, food trucks (food for purchase), and beverages for all ages (for purchase). The fireworks show begins at approximately 9:30 p.m. The rain date for fireworks only is Sunday, June 30, 2024, at 9:30 p.m. What a Blast! will be held at the Hal and Berni Hanson Regional Park Championship Plaza located at 23345 Hanson Park Drive, Aldie.

Hal and Berni Hanson Regional Park will also host the park’s annual Red, White and Run 5K at 8:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 4, 2024, starting in Championship Plaza. Click here to register.

  • The Independence Day Celebration at Lovettsville Community Center and Lovettsville Community Park kicks off on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, with a hometown parade sponsored by the Lovettsville Community Center Advisory Board and a Pool Bash for the entire family. The parade begins at 5:30 p.m. at the Lovettsville Community Park and travels down Broad Way before turning onto S. Loudoun Street and ending at the Lovettsville Elementary School.  The pool party at the Lovettsville Community Pool begins at 6:30 p.m. Admission to the Pool Bash is $5 per person. The festivities continue at the Lovettsville Community Park with carnival games, a live DJ, amusements, and food vendors (for purchase). The fireworks show will begin at approximately 9:30 p.m. The rain date for the fireworks-only show is Saturday, July 6, 2024, at 9:30 p.m.
  • Claude Moore Park hosts its annual Fourth Fest! on Thursday, July 4, 2024. The event features live music, crafts, nature exhibits, historic tours, carnival games, and more. It will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Food will be available for purchase. Attendees should use the Loudoun Park Lane entrance to the park, which is located at 21544 Old Vestals Gap Road in Sterling.
  • Independence Day at Franklin Park will be held Thursday, July 4, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Enjoy giant inflatables and games, music from DJ Bifocals, a photo booth, face painting, glitter tattoos, amusements, and food for purchase. The fireworks will begin at approximately 9:30 p.m. and will be accompanied by live music from Loudoun Symphonic Winds. The rain date for the fireworks-only show is Friday, July 5, 2024, at 9:30 p.m. The Franklin Park Pool will have holiday hours from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.; normal pool fees will apply. Franklin Park is located at 17501 Franklin Park Drive in Purcellville.

What You Need to Know Before You Go:

  • No personal fireworks (including sparklers) are allowed.
  • No outside alcoholic beverages are allowed.
  • No pets are allowed in the fireworks viewing and event areas.
  • Patrons can bring their own lawn chairs and seating. Lawn chairs and seating are not provided in the fireworks viewing areas. Please keep all paved and unpaved paths clear of chairs, picnic blankets, and other items while enjoying the festivities.
  • Picnic blankets are welcomed and can be set up on the grass viewing fields.
  • No personal tents are allowed at the What a Blast! at Hal and Berni Hanson Regional Park and the Independence Day Celebration at Lovettsville Community Park.


Arriving for PRCS Celebrate Independence Day Events:


  • Free parking is available at each event.
  • Please arrive early.
  • Parking for What a Blast! at Hal and Berni Hanson Regional Park is available until 8:00 p.m., or when parking lots meet capacity, whichever occurs sooner. Additional parking is available at Independence High School, Brambleton Middle School, and Madison’s Trust Elementary School.
  • Parking for Independence Day at Franklin Park, the Independence Day Celebration at Lovettsville Community Park, and Star-Spangled Sterling (Sterling Elementary School) is not guaranteed after 8:00 p.m. or when the gates are closed.
