Historical Treasures Unveiled: Thomas Balch Library Hosts New Archival Exhibit

Leesburg, VA, November 14, 2023 – The Thomas Balch Library in Leesburg, VA, has become a window to the past with its latest exhibit, currently open in the Margaret Mercer Room. This exhibit, which will run until December, offers a unique glimpse into newly acquired archival collections, showcasing the rich history and heritage of the area.

Among the standout items on display are the Timothy Taylor Jr. Letter from 1813, a vivid account of the Battle of Craney Island, and a selection from the Scatterday/Beans Financial Documents Collection, which spans from 1829 to 1903. These significant historical pieces were recently processed and prepared for public viewing by dedicated interns at the Thomas Balch Library.

The exhibit is not only a journey through history but also an insight into the library’s process of expanding its collections. Visitors can explore these fascinating pieces during the library’s operating hours, which are Monday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Wednesday from 2 to 8 p.m., Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m.
