Purcellville Neighborhoods Targeted in Vehicle Larcenies

PURCELLVILLE, Va., December 14, 2023  In the early hours of Tuesday, December 12, 2023, Purcellville residents faced a series of larcenies from vehicles across several neighborhoods. Between approximately 2:00 a.m. and 4:00 a.m., unknown individuals targeted multiple vehicles. The Purcellville Police Department, having acquired video footage, is investigating the involvement of three suspects observed in these thefts.

Most incidents involved the suspects gaining access to unlocked vehicles and removing visibly stored items. These ongoing investigations emphasize the necessity for victims of such thefts or attempted break-ins to contact the Purcellville Police via the non-emergency dispatch number at 703-777-1021. The department also encourages anyone with additional information related to these events to come forward.

In light of these incidents, the Purcellville Police Department is reminding residents and local businesses to adhere to the “9 p.m. Routine”. This preventive measure involves simple steps to secure homes, vehicles, and valuables. Despite increased neighborhood patrols by officers, community assistance plays a crucial role in deterring criminal activities. Residents witnessing suspicious activities are urged to promptly notify the authorities.

The “9 p.m. Routine” encompasses securing all doors and windows in homes, including garage doors, ensuring vehicle doors are locked and windows closed, removing valuables from vehicles, and making sure outdoor lights are on. While some criminals may still attempt break-ins into locked properties, the majority seek out easy targets with unlocked access. By collectively adopting the “9 p.m. Routine”, the Purcellville community can significantly contribute to enhancing local safety and security measures.
